The Schladming Coat of arms
Schladming’s Coat of arms shows the miner’s half profile on a blue shield, kneeling on-site, the pick applied and striking out with the hammer.
Schladming’s Coat of arms is based on an ancient market seal from the year 1621, on which a kneeling miner at work is shown.
According to the tradition (implied by the seal’s engraving), it is a display of the Prophet Daniel (a former mining patron).
Some passages in the Book of Daniel in the Old Testament are to be considered as evidence of mining activity. On the inner part of the Schladming market seal (displayed in Schladming’s city museum), the name Daniel is clearly visible.
