The Planai and Hochwurzen in Schladming are by far the most popular ski destinations of Styria. More than 15.000 guests per day can ski smoothly in the skiing area.

Planai

Ambitious skiers love the Planai. The legendary ‘Fis-Piste’ with 4,6 km is a real challenge from top to bottom. It starts at the Planai peak and leads down to the valley, with the famous bottom slope (Zielhang) as crowning finale. But also the easy going skiers feel good on the wide slopes, and everyone has fun on the permanent racetrack or skiing down the ‘Schuss-slope’. The mountain lodges aka „Planai Genussspechte“ invite to stop by, offering great food and drinks.

Hochwurzen

Skiers, snowboarders, tobogganists and winter hikers are into Hochwurzen, during daytime and in the evening! There are wide, long downhill slopes, which make every skier’s heart beat faster. Beginners and families find special kid’s offers and easy slopes. And in the evenings, Hochwurzen is still busy: there is a 7 km lit up toboggan run, 3 km lit up piste for skiers and of course Après Ski!

An Austrian Flagship

The Planai-Hochwurzen-Bahnen (Ski Lift Association) is considered to be a flagship in the Ski lift operator industry. Many innovations that were implemented all over the country, came from the Planai-Bahnen. They were a real pioneer regarding the development of snow making facilities (in 1978 already the first attempts took place), the greening of ski slopes (development of a particular Alpine seed mixture in the form of long-term testing), the construction of most modern ski-lifts, implementation of a chat-room in an altitude of 1900 m as well as being the first Austrian skiing area to successful introduce a “Ski-ECG”!
